Overeating has become a major problem in our country and around the world and it can lead to major health problems and have a deadly impact on people’s lives. There are plenty of individuals who openly confess that they have lost control over their eating habits. Foods work as a distraction for these people as they focus on eating instead of the other problems or situations that they are facing and going through. Eventually, over an extended period of time, overeating will take a toll on their health and their way of life will be changed and they will no longer be happy and healthy. Somehow, you have to be able to control your cravings for food or pay the price by becoming obese and put yourself at risk for all kinds of physical ailments. Here are a few tips to help you stop overeating.

The first thing that you have to do is to overcome the temptation for overeating. You have to figure out why you keep eating even after your stomach is full and once you figure this out, you can take control over the situation. Lets look at a few reasons why this may happen.

It usually takes the human brain around 12 minutes to receive the message that our stomachs are full when we are eating. On the other hand, if you are an obese person, this time can be extended up to 20 minutes and this means that you will be shoving extra food down your stomach during this extra time period and that is a lot of excess food to consume.The best thing for you to do is to stop eating before your stomach is full and that will ensure that you do not over indulge. Also, eat your meals more slowly and this will give your brain enough time to receive the message that your stomach is full.

Studies have proven that our brain reacts very well to what it sees and this is why you should always use smaller serving dishes for your food. If larger dishes are used and not enough food is put on them, then our brain will think that the portion is too small, but if the same amount of food is put on a smaller dish, the brain will be fooled into thinking that this amount is enough for a proper meal.

Meals should be eaten at the supper table with no distractions. If you eat while watching tv, driving, playing video games, etc, your brain will fail to get the right message in your head and if you are not paying attention, you will end up overeating. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water as that will make you feel full and it is good for your body and it will reduce your cravings for food .

Finally, make sure that you choose the right kind of food to curb your overeating. Carrot sticks are good for you and they can take the place of things such as potato chips which are not so good for you. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables which are rich in fiber and they will satisfy your cravings and will also boost your metabolism. This will help your body to burn fat at a higher faster rate.

There are some cases of overeating that require getting professional help to solve the problem and if this is your case, do not hesitate to seek help as your health and life are at risk . Make sure to take care of your overeating problem before it ends up controlling your life.
